On May 8, 1945 the shooting ended in Europe. But, shockingly, the war against Germany went on. Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill had decreed that the German people must suffer-and suffer they did. Driven from their homes, looted of their property, decimated by famine and disease, raped, robbed, and enslaved, millions of Germans-most of them women and children-bore the brunt of what Time magazine called "history's most terrifying peace". Gruesome Harvest was one of the first books in America to sound the alarm against the victor's postwar war against the Germans. Bristling with contemporary documentation, burning with humanitarian and patriotic outrage, this informed, riveting classic dares to tell the shameful story of how American and Allied policy makers undertook the political, economic, and social destruction of the German people even as they presumed to instruct them in "justice" and "democracy." Today, as the propaganda war against the Germans wears on in the media and academic life, Gruesome Harvest, written in 1947 by a courageous American, when the decimation of the German race was still official U.S.-Allied policy, tells a vital story, one that must not be suppressed or forgotten. "If war should come, whichever side may claim ultimate victory, nothing is more certain that victor and vanquished alike would glean a gruesome harvest of human misery and suffering."-Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, July 31, 1939, to the House of Commons.

Excellent reference material. I started investigating the brutality carried out against the German people during and after WWII. I was shocked. The fire bombing of Dresden was especially horrific. There was no need to carry out the slaughter of German civilians to achieve victory for the allies. I was unaware that the slaughter of civilians continued for years after the war. The starvation, forced marches, rape, torture and enslavement in work camps of these people is a chapter in human history unmatched in it's brutality. These acts on the part of the allies are nothing less than war crimes. The holocaust has been used as an excuse to justify these acts. However, researchers have brought to light many questions about the validity of these claims. None the less, there neither is nor was any excuse for this kind of inhumane brutality. A must read for all those looking for answers.Product details

Simply amazing at the arrogance and brutality of the occupying forces.
To the victor belong the spoils and the Americans surely took advantage of their victory.
Credit to the Germans that they did not rise up 20-40 yrs later against the oppression by the Allies as they had done after WW1
I thought I knew a lot about WW2 but after reading this book it seemed to me that we werent the good guys in every respect. I was particularly impressed that the German soldiers rarely molested the females in the towns they overtook but the American horndogs had to be restrained in Berlin so much so that the American females working in Berlin after the war had to wear armbands so the GIs would know who NOT to molest or rape. And Mr wonderful Eisenhower obviously wanted the German civilians annihilated.
A side of WWII that has been, sadly, brushed under the carpet.
A succint heartbreaking and sourced account of the tragedy of post-WW2 Germany.
Great book.
The book gives at a glance many examples of how much the Germans had suffered after losing the war.
Unimaginable suffering and unbelievable conditions.
God may have mercy over their souls.
It Should be compulsory reading in all schools
